AZVA has joined the ranks of the Charter Athletic
association. What does that mean for AZVA students who would
like to participate in competitive sports? It means that
junior high and high school students now have an opportunity to join
a team and compete against other schools.
However, there are limitations for AZVA simply
because of the way the students are schooled...there aren't any
sports facilities! So AZVA has to be creative in their
participation in the CAA. Even though the CAA governs lots of
sports for the participating charter schools (check out their
website at www.azcaa.com), AZVA
will not be able to field teams in all the sports offered by the
CAA.
Because AZVA doesn't have buildings and facilities like the traditional schools
or other charter schools,
many "traditional" sports are simply not feasible to implement. With students of all ages
and interests spread out all over the state of Arizona, team sports (especially ones that required
facilities and lots of equipment) are very difficult to run. Therefore, we must focus on sports that
have more of an "individual" nature to them and don't require the use of school facilities or lots of equipment.
AZVA will form teams in the following sports.
